Anyone know if 256Mb is enough memory for GPU crunching? Or is there any performance decrease from a 512Mb card? I think I read somewhere that 256Mb is enough just now but future projects might start to require more memory.
The reason I ask is this:

£45.81 inc vat for 8800GT seems good to me.
Any thoughts before I order and increase my GPU power? I am tempted by two of these into my SLi motherboard though not sure my PSU will cope. Anyone tried or got a multi GPU system working?

It is ok to use, however see the post i made in this section here (with comments pulled from the PS3 Grid forum).
Basically 256Mb will work, but cannot be guaranteed to work on future projects due to the "low" amount of memory.

I've got two 256MB 8800GT's running on GPU right now.
This host and this one too. They were my last two upgrades and pretty darn good value for money.
I figure on those boxes that if the application changes in the future to prevent then crunching (or drastically slow them down) I can always flog the cards on ebay and upgrade.
For now, they are a diamond investment in terms of bang for your buck, but Ben is right - do keep in check with the apps just in case.

According to http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=316
the 256Mb 8800GT will run fine. And at that price, two will run even better.
