Should have 8000-9000 ready at the start.

Gridcoin has joined along with Sg and an assortment of our usual foes. Let's get on it :)

At least on the next update AP should be past the mad god botherer
If you think that line looks good, I suspect it will be a tad steeper on sunday morning
.
Two days to go. Get your bunkers in as we are past the point of units timing out before the comp starts. Gridcoin etc. will be serious contenders so every little helps as they say. For those that need a reminder Rough guide to bunkering or simply load up and shut down network communication for the next 2 days. I may even get off my arse and follow my own advice for once here as NFS is quorum of one. There are no pendings to build for this one.

I'll help out, but I won't have much of a bunker I'm afraid...sorry! Just loading up now. I also only run my logical cores when doing the 16e's as I'm a bit memory constrained...both my memory and my machines.

Actually I think it does Carlos. They pay the same but I think Linux finishes a WU faster. IIRC

I think we had observed that before but I just compared 1000 16e WU completed on Win7 64 and 500 completed on linux and there was only about a 1 minute difference in the average completion times.Bryan wrote:Actually I think it does Carlos. 1 min is nothing.
Anyway:
"More than 1M 15e and 14e wus are ready to be queued. Let's see how the challenge goes. For 16e we can easily go up to 2M wus. "

That is good to know and also for me a moot point. I'm loaded up on Windows so I'm committed - at least until the startscole250 wrote: I think we had observed that before but I just compared 1000 16e WU completed on Win7 64 and 500 completed on linux and there was only about a 1 minute difference in the average completion times.

I'll bend my sails for the fleet. Although, relatively speaking, I'm sure it's more like holding a napkin up in the air... while standing in Nebraska.
What do you need to do to contribute to the pirate fleet (i.e. have it register properly)? Can you just join the "Anguillan Pirates"? Or do you have to change your country in BAM! as well?

Easiest way is to just go to your acount page at the NSF project and change your team from TSBT to Anguillan Pirates. Actually you quit TSBT then join Anguillan Pirates. Don't think you need to touch BAM.leecarver wrote:I'll bend my sails for the fleet. You can do it via project page OR bam, don't need to do both.
Edit:
I've found bam to be a bit funny for changing teams lately so I'd use the project page but you can give it a go.

#17 Re: 10/7-17/7 Need Fast Ships, Pirates Ahoy NFS@Home Challenge
Don't need to touch BAM or change countries. As scole said, go to your account on NFS, quit TSBT and then join Anguillan Pirates. Nothing changes for your personnal scores etc, they just keep counting. After the challenge you simply quit AP and rejoin TSBT.
Of course should you wish to change countries to Anguilla feel free. We can always use another pirate. Thats easiest to do with BAM rather than changing on all the individual projects you run.
Thanks for helping us out with this comp. We will need every point we can muster.

A shame we aren't running as TSBT. OcUK is only 1M ahead on FB and that probably won't even handle Scole's initial dump

I know, but as I had to set the competition up using my Anguillan Pirate account I have to try and be fair. Of course I can't stop anyone crunching where ever they want but I will stick with AP for the required time.Bryan wrote:A shame we aren't running as TSBT. 7 hours until start of comp. Don't know if I will make it to the starting line to dump my measly efforts. Up all night last night and spent most of today in hospital waiting and treatment rooms. This pirate has had his wings clipped good and proper and now sporting a fancy cast and a rather fetching sling. Not quite the hook hand and peg leg look beloved of old, but still I think I should get kudos for entering into the spirit of things.
Don't remember braking bones being quite this painful before. Must be getting old. Also very difficult to type with a broken wrist.

Typing is the least of your worries.I'd be more concerned about the...err...paperwork. The big question though is can you hold a rum and coke with your left hand?

#23 Re: 10/7-17/7 Need Fast Ships, Pirates Ahoy NFS@Home Challenge
Not as much help as I'd like, but I should have a little south of 500k at the start.
@Alez - Rum will also help with the pain and I'm sure Rum (lots) is Doctor recommended.

Is there any project/setting I need to have NSF set to for maximum benefit? Right now, I've only seen it do 16e V5 1.11 and 15e v1.08.
And one of these days, when I can figure out how to block outgoing traffic with BitDefender, I'll actually bunker.

16e pays the best. To download just those, go to your NSF account preferences and select only the lasieve5f application. Do you have the Windows Firewall enabled? If so, that is easy to use.

What I heard was he drove his motorcycle on the runway at an RAF base and raced a Typhoon down the runway. Halfway down he jumped on to the seat, started jamming on a 5 neck electric guitar and fell off. Just hear-say though.Silver wrote:Doesn't sound like you've had a good start to your return home Alez. Could be true, except I would have to contest the fell off part, sure I was pushed.

Hopefully I'll make an appearance at some point!

I found you had to change on project, update the comp and then do a BAM update and check that Bam registered the team change or Bam seems to fight you. If you also use boinc tasks as I do then again bam and boinc tasks will have a fight.
I have found that if you change on the project, do a project update on all the systems and then do a bam update on all the systems it sticks, but if a system is left on bam unchanged it will change them all back rather than change that one.

NeuralMiner is certainly tearing up the board. Good for the comp if their hordes also turn up, but bad for us. Graph doesn't seem to be working so hard to gauge how fast they are catching us.Bryan wrote:Thank goodness they don't understand the term "bunker". The latest is that Anguillan Pirates lead Gridcoin by 3.3 million. :)
16 hours ago it was 3.8 million.
But there are just over 73 hrs to go, so, even at current rates of attrition, AP would still win by over a million.
At present I think my modest resources are best used on keeping TSBT respectable in 7th of 12 active teams.
If the Pirates lead drops below 2 million then I shall jump ships, as it were. Ooh Arr! Shiver me timbers! Roger the cabin boy! etc.

I think we can stay ahead of the borg. Of course, right now all I can hear is a strange clicking and whirring and the distinct smell of synthetic oil.

#50 Re: 10/7-17/7 Need Fast Ships, Pirates Ahoy NFS@Home Challenge
At the current run rates, the borg will overtake us
It would be very close but they would prevail. Hopefully some of the folks that thought it was a done deal will put their machines on it again.
I will lose 1 machine today ... doing a brain transplant. Upgrade time assuming the new MB arrives today.
