Another one? Geez, I better load up some more! A lot more! I've seen your hole shot and have learned to respect it!scole250 wrote:Anybody getting any work to download to linux systems? I'm trying to things lined up for a hole shot.
In the midst of all this I'm having new internet service installed tomorrow. So, I'll be able to offload quickly or I'll be stuck sitting on my bunker. I'm taking bets on sitting on it because it's dependent on AT&T. Wish me luck...if things go well my upload/download speed should increase from 6/.45mbps to 900/700mbps.

I still haven't been able to get a single enigma WU on any linux system. 5 different VMs and 3 different native installs.

#15 Re: 22/2-29/2 Crack Nazi Codes Challenge Enigma@Home
Well, it turns out Enigma doesn't like Ubuntu 14.04 server install, maybe all server only installs. Installed mint desktop on a vm and voila! Too bad it's too late for max bunker. I got a few vms running. Should have a few hundred finished by the start. Also found some info to upgrade the ubuntu server to desktop. Do not want to start from scratch on the native installations and don't have time right now.

#16 Re: 22/2-29/2 Crack Nazi Codes Challenge Enigma@Home
Just run lubuntu desktop, better than the server versions anyway and way better than ubuntu or mint IMHO ..... just saying :). I'm not bunkering for this as I'm still scrapping zee germans on universe. All droids over though. Heading off tomorrow, got to decide on whether to leave the servers running or power them down .

#17 Re: 22/2-29/2 Crack Nazi Codes Challenge Enigma@Home
Is there any way to upgrade from server to lubuntu? For the regular desktop version, I thought I read I could just install ubuntu-desktop. Looks like this will work for lubuntu?
sudo -i
apt-get install lubuntu-desktop
apt-get dist-upgrade
apt-get autoclean
rm /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb
reboot
Guess I'll find out since my 24 core native install systems, currently booted to windows, will be out of work some time later today.

#18 Re: 22/2-29/2 Crack Nazi Codes Challenge Enigma@Home
yes that should work though you don't need to remove the archives, sudo apt-get autoremove should do the clean up for you.

#19 Re: 22/2-29/2 Crack Nazi Codes Challenge Enigma@Home
Can both ubuntu desktop and lubuntu be setup to automatically login on startup? Or is that even needed. On Windows you must login before boinc will start. Don't want that on these systems. Want them to start all the services including boinc automatically on headless systems.

#20 Re: 22/2-29/2 Crack Nazi Codes Challenge Enigma@Home
When you do the desktop install if you don't give it a password or user name ... basically skip that step then the machine will boot straight into Windows with no login required. Using admin tools you may be able to kill the user account and password so that it does this on one that was installed with user/pw.

#21 Re: 22/2-29/2 Crack Nazi Codes Challenge Enigma@Home
yes both ubuntu and lubuntu can do that, it's how all my systems are set up. Basically set user name and password on install ( otherwise you will not be able to sudo ) but set check box don't require password at startup.
If you have already installed the desktop either change the options in user accounts or purge and then reinstall desktop with this option set.
Ubuntu and Lubuntu are the same system only the desktop ( unity or ldx ) and installed programs by default are different.

I was only able to get to 2 VMs installed with a different version of linux in time. And while trying to re-install that version on a dual boot system, I screwed up and blew away the windows partition along with a completed 1100 WU bunker. I did get Windows re-installed and about half that amount complete before the start of the challenge.
The androids really do help in this challenge though.

Are there any optimal settings we should be using? I've got my work split between GPUGrid and Enigma (75% of processing power total). I'm getting about 32 minutes per task on average with Enigma.Silver wrote:Well we're off to a flying start.

Before you install the opti app, make sure all your completed WUs have uploaded because it's going to dump all existing WUs once it sees the settings for the new app.

So I "installed" the opti app per the instructions in the thread and set my cores to 4. BOINC downloaded some new work, but all five of them went to computation errors in the first 15-16 seconds. It downloaded another batch and these errored out in 6 seconds.
Any thoughts on why this might be occuring?

Did you have BOINC shutdown when you moved the files into the Enigma folder? If not it doesn't copy all the files because one or more are in use by BOINC.

Yes - I had exited out of BOINC. But I'll try again today and see if I get the same error.Bryan wrote:Did you have BOINC shutdown when you moved the files into the Enigma folder? If not it doesn't copy all the files because one or more are in use by BOINC.
