With Universe@Home down and no work on it, I was trying to get a jump on this but there's currently no work for SIMAP. Website says new work is being prepared and scheduled to start on Dec 10. :?

Work available. Bunker away.

Tasks waiting to be sent disappear quick, but get replenished up to 5000 before long. The tasks in progress is currently at 514,000 and growing...

Controversy at the SIMAP challenge. Sicituradastra whining that their credits are too low.

There's no whining in BOINC challenges!

Meanwhile TSBT is currently 6th of 25! Still early though.

I didn't get round to bunkering so I hope last nights work went pending and will come through at some point.
Most of my WU's crunched since last night are pending just now.

Yeah, still lots of pending. Mine are up to 525.

As for the controversy, appears to be a bit of a challenge lesson. Don't be too quick to release your bunkers. Even though a challenge shows it's active, it may not count your WUs as part of the challenge. Timing issue. Happened to me once. I now wait until I see stats for others before I release mine. Probably has something to do with the number of people crunching SIMAP. Already over 500 on this challenge.

Its all part of the challenge ;)
When I'm organised enough to bunker I do usually wait a bit after the start before unleashing my stash, a helpful reminder to be careful about what we're doing.
Just as well this is all for fun! :D

I see the debate over missing credit is still going.
Much as I'd like to complain that I'm in the same boat I'm just not towards the top of the list :(

Are you missing credits or just have a ton in pending? There's a lot still in pending. I have over 1000 pending (1/4 of my total) and growing. There were 4 teams that appear to have missing credit, not just stuck in pending. They shouldn't whine anymore though. BOINCStats is free, run by volunteers and somethings stuff happens.

The last person to complain, fb*, appears to have valid stats. Maybe they just got fixed. Hope they weren't griping for no reason. I checked Mankka* too. I think they're griping about pending and blaming BS.

Anyway, this challenge should put my WUProp SIMAP over 10,000 hours for another magenta app. :) (green star next goal though)

I've got a chunk pending which will appear at some point hopefully before the end of the comp.
I haven't actually added up my total but I doubt I've lost any credit, I just need more power

I doubt I'm at magenta level for simap but I'll have to have a look and see where I'm up to.

Grab 'em and crunch 'em before the music stops. :D Those are the only rules. 8)
I'm still getting lots of new work! :D
It's a pity that we are in 11th place rather than the top 10 but with a large competitive field of 27 active teams it is hardly a disgrace. :| So long as we keep grabbing work after others have given up, with another 10 days to go, nothing is impossible!

I'm guessing he's still somewhere in the Congo but the internet is avoiding him for now.
In one of his last posts he did say it wasn't going particularly well and sounded like he was going to be stuck there for a while.
Hopefully he'll manage to pop in and say hi soon.

I am having a little go, no way am I doing 24/7.

Just asking what temperatures are your cpu cores running at? I am steady @ 59C across all 8, 2 are doing Collatz and 6 are on this Simap thing, Gpu is 63 and 64 steady on collatz.

My temps are certainly higher than yours Rob!
I'll check when I get home but off the top of my he cpu is around mid 60s and my gpu is grinding through some PrimeGrid in the high 70s
I've only got 4 cores, 3 are on simap and the other is looking after my gpu and my ants on bitcoin.
Hope that helps or reassures you a bit?

Temps vary by system, but one is a i7-3770k cooled with a H100i running 6 cores on SIMAP, 2 7970s running seti gpu tasks and cpu temps staying around 57-59.

Only 2 days work left. I don't have any other project WUs due before next week so it's pause the gpu projects and all cores on SIMAP for the next 2 days. :bom:

It's ok just remembered that my pump is variable and was on its lowest setting , cpu cores now at 53 across all and Gpu is @ 58 & 58 on its highest, Seti doesn't even bother my Gpu and just gets about 48c running that, can this simap whatsit run on the gpu?

No gpu apps, only cpu for this project.

How much work is everyone able to download per system? On 8 core systems, it will only give me 480 WUs, 240 on 4 core. I'm only able to get about 2 days of work queued up, so I started a second boinc client on most systems, loaded them with work and suspended until the main client runs out of WUs. Still only enough for about 4 days. May start a 3rd client. I think taking 10th position back is going to hinge on hoarding more work than the other teams.

:D I like that Scole, I'll have to try to remember that for future use.

I may have let the team down slightly yesterday, my computer decided it was being overworked and decided to take the day off
I got home last night and went to quickly check my pc and thought it was a bit quiet and cold in my study. Curse you Microsoft updates, which I'm sure I'd disabled from auto installing
Anyway I'm back on it now but it's possibly scuppered my chances of a top 10 finish for this one :D

Just learned a new trick to increase the number of WUs a project will you. In the cc_config.xml, set the <ncpus>12</ncpus> option to 2-3 times the number of cores you actually have, restart BOINC Client, update the project a couple of times and it will give you more based on the new number of cores it thinks you have.

Be careful though. On most systems, it still knows the actual number of cores and will only start that number of tasks, but one system think it actually has that many and started extra WUs.

The credit may well be shite but I'm giving it my modest all.
It's a long time staple of BOINC & soon it'll be dead & buried so let us pay our due respects while we can.
Besides, it would be nice to kick some Ukrainian ass. :D [no disrespect guys, keep shooting at Putin's 'nads! Boinc aside we are with you! :) ]

You need to fool SIMAP into thinking you have more cores so it will download more WUs before they run out. See the post above about changing <ncpus> to load as many WUs as you want. Use the bunker calculator spreadsheet I posted a link to figure out how many WUs you can finish in 7 days (the due date for SIMAP WUs).

4900 WUs left. (gonna be lot's of re-sends too) Get'em guys!

BTW, fudging <ncpus> is how BlackOps bunkers so much. Did you know STE\/E [BlackOpsTeam] has a bunch of i7 -3770Ks with 200 cores each! See for yourself http://boincsimap.org/boincsimap/hosts_ ... userid=365

And some think we have a problem. Check out his farm. Bet it gets a little warm in there...

Scole however is making a bid for world domination and is trying to drag his teammates along with him, he must have been on a motivational speaking course ;)

No plans for world domination. Not today anyway 8)

Just trying to help TSBT finish SIMAP as high in the rankings as possible. 10th seems so much better than 11th is all. Nobody ever bragged about being in the top 11.

Anyhoo, the work is running out [just 378,088 WU left in progress & none available to send]. We are still in 11 th and gaining (but very slowly) on Ukraine.

I would like to claim victory Mega, but a combination of toxic chemicals and ( toxic ) alcohol left me standing ( but not truly functional ) and parasites....... not so much. Whilst not so sure who was hardest ( on a weight to toxicity level they win hands down ). Would call it more of a victory due to superior firepower.
That's me out of Simap units, only pendings to roll in I'm afraid.
11th is a pretty good position for the team :D not going to make it out of the 100 to 200 bracket :(

I'll see if I can pick up anymore but I suppose there won't be many coming through now.

There are just 240,337 WU left in progress.
I've got a mere 636 in progress and 217 pending. So that's about 16K of credit to look forward to.
So, consolidating 11th place isn't the most inspiring goal ever. :| But we are still going to be ahead of 16 other competing teams. And we look fated to be the 54th biggest team for this project which is better than 2,454 of our rivals can say. :)

And there could be a sudden surge of resends at some, as yet unguessable, point so stay attached just in case.

I'm happy with 11th. For the number of people we had crunching we've done well. :occasion5: Despite the low credit and high pending, we even had Rob crunching. Glad you joined us Rob. :thumbright: I just get caught up in trying to rally everyone. Ukraine has 3 times the crunchers as we do on this challenge. I still have a few days of work left, then on to the WCG challenge. :pirate:

Resends? Should be over 800... Wouldn't dare post this on the challenge site and risk the BOINC community's wrath for wasting WUs, but on the 10th while trying to cache more WUs, I had one system dump over 400 WUs for some reason.:? Then on the 12th, a co-worker, whose system I use, was testing some year end processes and changed her system date to 12/31. It dumped all 400+ WUs. I hope they will all get resent.
