Lesson to self & others (assuming they are as thick as me).

If bunkering is your plan, make sure you have enough downloaded work to last you from the point at which you suspend network comms to the one where the challenge begins. I didn't do this, although I'd set my Boinc preferences such as it should have been fine, and so have just had to prematurely upload about 2 Million of Collatz units rather than leave some GPUs unemployed.
Any how there's no harm done & in 24 hours I hope to have 3 million credits to kick off this challenge. 6 million would have been even better but ...

At least you've got enough time to start again and get a useful amount stashed :)

My dump was not as massive as I'd have liked. I kept having to let it go bit by bit during the day. It seems that Collatz won't give you more than 200 WU per machine at a time. Which is a bit limiting.
However with a whole hour gone we are in second place (out of 12 teams) :) .
Sici are on our tails but behind them our amphibian rivals are way behind.
I'm second of 143 users. Alez is 4th. Paul is 11th.
So all good.

Me neither, struggled to get a cache going all day. Kept getting project has no tasks available. The only decent cache I got was on the slowest computer. Any hoo , still dumping credit and Scole250 just dropped in 1/4 million. Amphibians and UBT a bit behind
Hopefully once all my credit are in we will be right behind Seti.USA, which is a major achievement.
Constellation seems to have taken a bit of a boost too

Think we are going to need the Janos Calvary if we want to keep sici at bay. Any chance of giving Milkyway a break for a few days on Collatz ?
Also wondered when thrasher would really start

LAF past us now. Keep the fire Alive are still behind us and hopefully will not pass us soon.
That leaves us in 4th, well ahead of any of our usual rivals and punching far above our weight in terms of numbers of team members.

Yes I'll settle for fourth - we are steadily pulling clear of Keep the Fire Alive. :)

Individually we are above them but there are just too many of them shouldn't they be out making tadpoles or something ?

I used to be able to get my offspring up mountains. :) When they were too young to mount a coherent argument against.
Now the alarmingly-fit-but-independently-minded 14 year old complains bitterly about anything taking him away from his peers and the frankly-rather-lazy 11 year old just wants to play minecraft and watch cute pug videos on his Kindle.

Whatever we look very well placed to hold into 4th for this challenge. And it's doing our overall placing no harm at all.

48 hours left and we've crashed the project!
All of which should help us hold onto 4th place. But watch you don't end up with idle GPUs. If it's not back up by midday tomorrow I'm going to have to connect to some other projects.

Sounds familiar.... mines went from an alarmingly fit,but easy going 11 year old, willing to try just about anything, to a frankly rather lazy 13 year old, that just wants to play minecraft and GTA online with his mates all day, on frankly the most over speced minecraft capable computer I dumbly put in his bedroom.
I , personally, have never seen the attraction of an 80's lego like game, but it is like catnip to this generation. The founders of minecraft must have made a fortune and moulded an entire generation into super server savvy kids that firmly believe that exercise is walking downstairs from their lair to the dinning table, before scuttling back upstairs faster than Usain Bolt

With Collatz now down for 12 hours and no word from Jon, I have tried to put milkyway and Einstein in play, with hopefully a last blast on Collatz if it comes up and if the Boinc scheduler plays ball.
If it ends like this, we certainly can't knock 4th considering the company we are keeping

If a project is down and completed WUs waiting to be uploaded expire, do you lose the credit?

Jon's pretty good at awarding credit earned if his system has been down.
Jon has had a hard time all year keeping this puppy running.

But not too late for us to get lots of credits.
In fact I don't think we have ever lost Collatz credit, despite their many outages, no matter how far past it's due date the units go.
