Must be pretty unnerving on one of your 56-core boxes to see them all taken by just one WU...

It's pretty efficient, unlike some multi-threaded apps, and uses almost all cpu time. Very little waste. Finishes WUs much faster than a 8 thread system.

Can't wait to win the lottery and buy myself a dual or quad Opteron 32-core box

Stick with the dual machine. You don't want to go over 64 threads if you plan on running Windows.

Not planning to use windows, and a single Ryzen 32-core Opteron will already reach the magic number...
Who knows, 256 threads might even tax the Linux OS to the limit....
But I suppose the cost of four 32-cores, plus a quad mobo and the ECC RAM together will be staggering.

Get ready gang! Challenge starts in a little over 4 days. WUs have a 3 day deadline. GPU WUs are now available. Pay attention to those temps! The GPU WUs run a little hot.

AMD GPU WUs leave the system a bit sluggish -on a HD 7790.

Are you reserving a full core for AMD GPUs? Some of the SETI.USA gang claim it needs it. Or do you mean the GPU utilization is too high and makes video sluggish? I see that with a some of the new GPU apps these days. They're really getting all they can out of them.

I was trying to get ramped up on CPU and GPU WUs but high temp will be 80 here today! In Feb! Never fails :x

The AMD definitely needs at least a full thread ... a core is better.

GPU utilization is very heavy and on top of it I received a mail where the project admin makes note of too many failures of my Linux-based GPU.
Coincidence or not: in all four cases my two wingmen used Windows....

Apparently only the numbers are amicable. Not the project admin...
I've set up a script that bans hosts which have:

1) More than 3 invalid results in the last week
or
2) More than 10 inconclusive results in the last 2 days

Normally, hosts don't produce invalid/inconclusive results at all. If you see one of your hosts as banned, it means that you need to fix it: reduce overclocking, update GPU drivers etc. and contact me as soon as you've fixed it.

That's a bit Draconian. He does realise that we are volunteers not paid staff. If he banned me I would not be going running back. Plenty of other projects out there.

I've not read about any wide spread host banning so maybe it was just more of a warning. To be fair to him, there appear to be a lot of systems with older or smaller GPUs people are reporting problems with. Come on folks, retire those HD4000's!

2 hours until the fun begins. And just a reminder, if you snooze and wait until SUSA starts to upload their bunkers and breaks the server, you lose!

Good luck guys. I'll be cheerleading from the background on this one. Bunkers away and all that.

Well that didn't take long ... it appears that the bug in the challenge SW that wouldn't allow us to post the project name is keeping it from grabbing data. Both FreeDC and BStats did pull stats for their nightly update after the challenge start. So I guess Willy has some more work to do on the challenge SW.

That really sucks!

EDIT: no white screen on this one Alez.

Nevertheless guys, will be a huge boost to TSBT team score. Very nice for top 10 and staying number 1 in UK rankings. All positive.

I have one system that's been misbehaving on this project. It's linux and I'm running GPU and CPU on it. It's hung the system a few times. It did it overnight. While this system was hosed up, I had multiple systems at both home and office that were getting http errors trying to connect to the project. As soon as I rebooted the hosed server, all other systems started connecting to the server. Anyone ever experienced anything like that?

Nope. Never. Very weird.
Also see we are getting tons of white screens now and looks like our sigs are not showing on my system anyway.
Think I may have to bite the bullet and nuke the entire board. Make a fresh new install and hope I can restore it. Nightmare when you are not a system admin or have no experiance doing it.
How hard can it be ?

Competition complete with TSBT holding a convincing second place.
Well done to us.
No individual stats available for this one I'm afraid.
