The RK3288 is a tad bit faster on the whole, but has 'only' four A17 cores against the eight A53 cores of the RK3368.

Then again, as Scole has earlier said, you need a 2GB model for the quad RK3288 to be effective, so we'd rather wait for a 4GB model of the octa-core RK3368. We should stay away from 1GB models of the RK3368, that's for sure...

There was a bloke some 30 miles away that offered his 1GB RK3368 for some 85 euro's -we now know why[/url]....and another that wanted to get rid of his -2GB- RK3288 for €40,00...prices sure are dropping! BTW: the 2GB RAM/16GB Flash model of the RK3368 does a little over 90 Euros at Banggood at the moment!

I'm having a look around at picking up an Cortex-A17 RK3288 TV box, as they seem to be the best of the 32 bit. The 64 bit cortex's look a bit of a disappointment and I would guess all the BOINC apps for droids are 32 bit anyway so doesn't seem like they are worth the money as they seem to have quite a premium except for the A 53's which look like they are no better than an A9 anyway.
Would I be correct ? Any one got one ? Any tips except the usual more memory the better ?

The best option -at the moment- seems to be a quad-core ARM Cortex-A17 (or a big.LITTLE octo-core combo with the A17 as 'big') with as much RAM as possible, until the ARM Cortex-A72 comes with enough RAM -and 64-bit ARM apps become common.
Mind you: there are even more ARMv8 models nowadays, but the Cortex-A35 and A32 are meant to be A7 and A5 replacements.
The A32 is even meant to be 32-bit only, but fully supports ARMv8 instruction set and architecture:

What system has a octo core big.LITTLE with an A17 as the big and what is the cost? The RK3288 (A17) android TV boxes are down to $65 US on Amazon. Sticks are even cheaper.

Thanks, best have a scout for a A17 RK3288 box then. Power bills must be reduced and my RK3188's are getting close to retirement. 1 of the 6 is now refusing to boot past the splash screen ( might just need a reflash but doubt it as they have run 24/7/365 for 3 years or so ) a second appears to have vanished off Bam and will need investigating when my feet are dry again. Upgrade and replacement in order. Same for a few of the normal systems. Need to look at the low power AMD board options as mentioned before.

There's quite a few octo core cortex A53 boxes out now, but they all seem to have only 2GB mem, so basically pointless for our purposes. A57's and A72's seem rarer than hens teeth and very expensive.
Seems the A17 is the way to go.
Found a few based on Intel atoms that are dual boot but as setibeta is the only project that supports android on Intel, they would have to be run under win 8.1 or 10 and would in reality be horendously slow I would think. Looking at the antutu scores, most Atom based systems are slower than the A17's anyway.
