Basically we became victims of our own success and this always failed as the job of keeping it up to date became too onerous as we all became more productive.
The following scheme might be more sustainable celebrating as it does teams or individuals passing increasingly widely spaced milestones. It has a certain democratic appeal in that a newbie, if assiduous enough, could get weekly mentions for a month or so but the likes of myself might get a kudos shout in a few months when I pass 100 million but will have to wait another decade or so before I hit 1 billion.
The milestones will be:Centurion .................. 100
Millipede ................. 1,000
Decamillipede ....... 10,000
Lakher* ............... 100,000 (*Indian members will understand)
Millionaire ......... 1,000,000
Decameggar ... 10,000,000
Centameggar 100,000,000
Billionaire .. 1,000,000,000
etc ... chance would be a fine thing!
