The server is up and I finally managed to report all the WU's, but there was a hiccup during the migration process. For several hours there was a problem with uploads that trashed WU's. SO far I've lost 16
OK, so this has been a very stable and responsive project. And the project lead scientist personally comes to the forum to apologise (see here). So, I'm prepared to live and let live. At least there is feedback, rather than a deafening silence such as you get from other projects that trash your WU's

the basics, OK on 1 result only! ...
Linux
old = 4 hours 237 points given = 59 points per hour
new = 6.3 hours 192.24 given = 30.51 points per hour
50% less

Mmm, there's a pattern emerging here what with an even more brutal "correction" on cosmology and rieselsieve going offline. The good payers are being reined in/ self-regulating and we are in serious danger of WCG being averagely rewarding. Of course it's how Boinc should be but a bit boring.

I've not posted about this over at Einstein for fear of being black listed or otherwise condemned with sideways glances.
But here I think I can speak a bit easier.
There are two things that really annoy me about this whole credit adjustment......
Firstly, there appears to be a small group of people going round each high paying project telling them to decrease their credit rates, but I see no evidence of the reverse - pressure to increase badly paying projects.
Secondly, projects like Einstein have just converted over to using "optomised" science apps as standard build, yet they are compared in the credit rates with stock apps at Seti. It is clear to me that if I wanted to reach a high project RAC, I will have to go back to Seti and run optomised apps.
There are a few alternatives, I could go back to ABC and run true 64bit apps that crunch twice as fast as 32bit, or I could increase the commitment on GPUGrid (PS3Grid). Meanwhile, I'm pushing on to 1M on this project while looking at QMC and Milkyway.

The puritan tendancy is a bit irksome. As you say it's all about reducing credit rather than equalising it.
On the whole though this Boinc credit crunch is a good, if rather boring, thing. If each project was always trying to be more generous than every other one, and got off with it, then we would have run away inflation, Zimbabwe style, and soon our hard gained 92 million amassed over 4 years would be acheivable by a low end laptop running Cosmo@home for an afternoon.
Anyhoo I'm going to use my belated discovery of the optimised Seti client to get my Seti million, boost my RAC (and that of TSBT) and delay the inevitable serial demotions which are my future prospects!

I just installed the optomized client on my machines. What a buzz. It even gets rid of those unwanted Astropulse w/u's.
Buster is my dog. Sadly, Buster is gone.
Buster is the Malamute, Obi is the Golden.
Obi is the dog of the house now.

Now you tell me! Lets just say there are more friendly BOINC projects out there I'll be focusing on ...Nightlord wrote:I've not posted about this over at Einstein for fear of being black listed or otherwise condemned with sideways glances.

My first results on new credit rating was:
http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/workunit.php?wuid=42231641
19,528.28secs for 64.16 credits , now that is total sheeetye!!
I used to get:
http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/workunit.php?wuid=42040946
14,128.69secs for 237.42 credits.
Quite a BIG difference. I have binned Einstein for now but mught try again in a few weeks.

Thats your claimed credit - your granted credit will be 192.nn or hopefully 220.nn once the quorum is completed.sneakysaurus wrote:My first results on new credit rating was:

I don't seem to be able to join the Team in this project. I get an answer that I do not have permission access this resource. I made a note in their forum and all I got back so far is that the Team might be closed to new members. This does not seem right. Aby clues?
