#1 Recommendations instead of Collatz

Post by Buster Gunn »

I'm getting tired of Slicker's BS. I guess he's out of town or something. Collatz is down more than it is up.
I don't like changing projects but I'm looking for an alternative to Collatz. I have about 3M is credits in limbo.

I have mostly older cards. The most modern is a GTX650 (2). TIA Buster

If they are AMD's with DP then Milkyway, if nVidia's then I would suggest Primegrid or Einstein.
Asteroids is a good project but the GPU app is not much faster than the very good CPU app they have. All 4 of these are stable with plenty of work.
GPUGrid is very fickle and demanding regarding if the units run or crash and needs baby sitting. Seti is a waste of a GPU but that said even very old cards will run it for no reward. DistRTgen seems to have joined the dinosaurs in extinction and Poem work is harder to find than hens teeth. Think the only one not mentioned is Moo Wrapper if you can get it to run. Personally got sick of jumping through hoops trying that rodeo.

Thanks. They are all nvidia's except for 1. I'll look into spreading out the effort. Too bad some of the mathematical projects can't get LLR to work on the damn things.

I fear I have crossed to the dark side. BU it is. I even got the nvidia's running.
GPU's only. One question. Just what are the w/u's doing. The stderr looks like a
bunch of mumbo-jumbo.

Seems to me they could do some good for some worthy entity(besides the campaign's for $).

No science, forget thinking of them as normal Boinc units. Pure cash generation through decryption of the security on bitcoin transfers. If you're not sure of the stderr then post it and either me or scole will translate it for you. Welcome to the dark side. Nice to have some elder statesman support for the project. Some of the campaigns are worthwhile endeavors.

They are wasting enormous resources if that's just decryption exercises.
There are worthwhile campaigns.
Elderly is if you are over 70. I got 8 months before that happens. LOL

Not really decryption exercises as the encryption / decryption of the SHA256 algorithm is the basis of how Bitcoin works.
In 8 months time, elderly will be when you hit 75 :D Personally, I'm 46 and, according to my wife, will have a hell of a mid life crises provided I ever get over the issues of puberty  .

Yeah, mining is the process of verifying and maintaining crypto currency network transactions. Participating in BU helps fund non-profit projects, many of them BOINC projects such as Milkyway@Home, Seti@Home, BOINCStats, Yoyo@Home and SRBase@Home.
