#1 freeBSD12 (alpha8) with Boinc / AMD drivers

Post by davidbam »

I realise this is a Linux sub-forum but it was the closest.

My mate has expressed willingness to help me get this running so will report progress in this thread
I think this is fool-proof but could you just try it for me please? • There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary, and those who don’t

Go for it and good luck. Something I've never tried. Will be interested to see how it goes. We might even get the basis of a how to from it.
I'll make a new forum for you and transfer this thread there.

Well if he can't get it working, I don't know who can. He is something of a freeBSD aficionado and uber-geek :ugeek: :ugeek:

I found these threads on the t'interweb thingy that relate specifically to getting BOINC up and running on freeBSD.
Maybe they will help point in the right direction ?

FreeBSD with AMD drivers? The best of luck! (You'll need it)
Been there, done that, never going back again....
My advice: FreeBSD, with nVidia drivers.

I hope for you that the support for discrete cards exceeds that of APUs, BSD-wise.

An older posting of me that is better off here:

How to install BOINC on FreeBSD.
FreeBSD client download.
Seti@Home on FreeBSD application.
There is a team of FreeBSD users that provides information for running Einstein@Home from it.
Asteroids@Home has both 32-bit and 64-bit native FreeBSD applications, while NSF only has 64-bit native FreeBSD applications.
You can of course run most Linux applications within FreeBSD.

And how to install on OpenBSD
OpenBSD x86_64/AMD64 client download
OpenBSD i386 client download

this proved too painful so have abandoned for now

Might be worth revisiting though as there are all sorts of developments going on

Worth a try, maybe in the future. I still have a Pentium 4 system sitting around that one day I am going to try and run android on a x86 just to see if I can get it to work.
