#1 moving a complete Boinc instance

Post by davidbam »

Actual scenario

I installed onto a small SATA SSD because the NVMe SSD hadn't arrived in time. 10 boinc-client instances all happily working.

I plan to suspend all work - allowing partly-run WU to complete.
Then, shutdown the sata SSD
Then, re-install linux onto NVMe SSD (same machine)
Then, re-install boinc - but not attach to projects
Then copy entire directory structure across from sata SSD onto NVMe SSD
Reboot
Will boinc pick up where it left off do you think?
I think this is fool-proof but could you just try it for me please? • There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary, and those who don’t

I think it should work. I've done the same thing except moving the BOINC from another slower computer to allow the work to finish faster.
