#1 Musical selection of the day...

Let's share our favorite music. There's several genres that I like ranging from classical, garage (surf, punk, indie), British invasion, R&B, southern rock, pop and whatever sounds good to me. Please share some of your favorite pieces, whatever the genre. Us old fogies need to be exposed to new stuff! With classical music, when I can start remembering who the composer is when I hear it, it's on my short list. Heard this the other night on the way home from a scout meeting. It's the polka from Antonin Dvorak's Czech Suite. Just beautiful. Hope you like it.

If you ever want to listen to classical music, anywhere in the world as long as you have have internet access, try WCPE right here in Wake Forest, NC USA. They have several streaming formats, all for free. http://theclassicalstation.org

I listened to this a lot towards the end of last year... I still like it so it seems to have stuck with me. I think it's the balance between Hannah Reid's voice and the stripped down backing sound that makes it work for me (a bit like Sade without the frills).

Youtube said "The uploader has not made this video available in your country." I'll search around for another video.

Here's my musical selection of the day. It's Pretty Things "Midnight To Six Man" from 1964. Love me some British Invasion. No lip synching or auto tune here. It's the real deal...

Look for London Grammar - song title is Strong you may find a version you can watch - This is a good reason to hate the convoluted copyright system... (It would be nice if Google let us know which countries a video can be seen in.)

The Pretty Things did seem to kind of get squeezed out between the Stones and the Who... but they were a first rate R&B outfit.

Thinking of Robert Miles... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e83ZEb3jYv8 I saw the film many years ago and I still can't get it out of my head. I think it's the red hair... :D

What a diverse selection we're sharing. I was a hick that grew up in rural southwest Ohio, near Cincinnati. I remember the first time I was exposed to music from a source other than the local oldies, top 40 and rock stations. I had friend that went to school in Luxembourg for a year back in the early-mid 80s. When he came back, he wore strange clothes  and listened to very strange music. At first, we were like "Doug, what the he77 are listing to?". That was my introduction to "new wave" music. We had small local collage radio station that had started playing it too. Ultravox, Roxy Music, Depeche Mode. I really enjoyed it.

Anyway, back to the garage rock. Paul Revere, of Paul Revere and the Raiders just passed away. So here's my favorite tune by them, Good Thing...

I had the bleached highlighted hair etc. etc. then came Miami Vice
and after following more links and lots of blasts from the past with a big grin and singing away hit here

Savage Garden - To the moon and back
Love chasing you tube music videos, so many more memories in the songs than movies, books etc.

now onto Flashdance and Top Gun :D Used to put this on before I went racing mental 2 stroke production motorcycles on race tracks , the now wife banned me from listening to it before going out on the highways, especially with her on the back of the bike  Good times, although sometimes I wonder how I survived with only broken bones.

Some awesome choices in here, there are also some interesting choices here too Alez ;)

Since it appears to be the weekend I'm going for some dance numbers, currently I'm listening to a bit of:
Kiesza - Hideaway
The Magician - Sunlight feat. Years & Years
Sigma ft Paloma Faith - Changing (Majestic Remix)
Wankelmut & Emma Louise - My Head Is A Jungle (MK Remix)
Make sure you get the remixed versions of the two above - in my humble opinion 8)

And for something slightly cultured (it's French)
Kate Ryan - Libertine

Fall is finally here in eastern North Carolina. Nice crisp cool mornings this week. Highs in the 70s, lows in the 40s. Whenever the seasons change, I always enjoy listening to one of Vivaldi's Four Seasons concertos. Here's all three movements of Concerto No. 3, Autumn...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfmGsC1PGFQ

Featuring Scottish classical violinist, Nicola Benedetti :love7:

(Sorry about the ad. This was best performance I could find on youtube)

And for those who don't like classic garage, maybe this is a little more your liking, Ravonettes/Red Tan...

Interesting. I like this threat because it displays the wide diversity in music appreciation on TSBT. Everyone feel free to post your favorite music here.

I heard this song for the first time in ages this past weekend. I was born about 15-20 years too late....

The Flying Machine - Smile A Little Smile For Me

The Hollies - Carrie Ann

I realize those are like elevator music to most of you, but I'm sure there's a few that it brings back memories for. :)
(too many oldies for you so I trimmed it back)

How about another Aerosmith tune? Sweet Emotion released in 1975. I heard it this morning and it took me back to my teenage years. I don't think the official MTV video meshes with the song well. Not what stirs in me when I hear it anyway.

I had never heard this song by this group until recently on my satellite radio station. It was, of course, written by and originally released by The Beatles in 1965. This version, produced by The Beatles and performed by The Silkie was released only 2 months later.

Here's The Silkie performing "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away"

This will be 2nd go, my first wife died of cancer but time to move onwards and plan for retirement, always wanted to go to MIT campus for a look around but guess it a non honeymoon option. Utah is a firm favourite but a fair hike ... Aberdeenshire is a favourite closer to home but not a fan of boat trips with all the rain.

That reminds me, will need to get some WUs downloaded before going away and offline, get that cc config thingy back in buisiness.

And going back for even earlier punk. From Australia ~1965 , Tony Worsley and the Fabulous Blue Jays, "How Can It Be"...

I've always liked Dave Edmunds rockabilly music. I heard this on Underground Garage yesterday for the first time and liked it. Not rockabilly but it has soul.

"Take me for a little while" from the album "Repeat when necessary" by Welsh rock musician Dave Edmunds in 1979. Heard on The Sopranos Season 4 Episode 6 "Everybody Hurts" from 2002.
