my Windows machine has frozen a couple of times already but I'll certainly keep all 32 cores on Gerasim
I think this is fool-proof but could you just try it for me please? • There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary, and those who don’t

@davidBAM, can you say "dual boot" ?
That's a new one we need to put in the dictionary:
DUAL BOOT - a mechanism for kicking a Linux snob's behind on Gerasim.
Of course that's just my definition

Dual boot - an arcane mode of operation still used by some old-timers who think all computers have a monitor and keyboard
Linux snob - see https://tsbt.co.uk/forum/memberlist.php ... e&u=169082
PS : my Gerasim machine doesn't crunch at all until I login. How do I get it to start automatically?

When you do the initial install you give it your name but you do NOT give it a password on the next screen. I don't know how to turn it off once it is installed. There is probably a way to do auto login after the fact.
Click the Start icon and then right click on "computer" and then select "manage". From there you can go into users and change passwords. Maybe you can just delete your password there and it will work. I'd sure Google it before I did that though.
PS 6 of my computers are headless ... well does IPMI count as a monitor and keyboard?

We can't all afford server motherboards
I may have one or two that I could dual-boot but I do tend to crunch CPU and GPU in different instances on the same machine so not always handy. FB don't sprint on Gerasim (or anything else atm) so it would only be FB Marathon and if the Pentathlon chose it (would they dare)
Will ponder.

Run netplwiz from command prompt. Uncheck the box next to "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" and click OK.davidBAM wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 4:33 am Dual boot - an arcane mode of operation still used by some old-timers who think all computers have a monitor and keyboard

None of my servers have keyboards or monitors. I remote in using either teamviewer or VNC

Dual boot? That's so 1980ies...At IBM we did triple and quadrupple boot in the 1990ies. Sysadmin made us do it on seperate disks though, afraid for exotic crashes.
Triple: OS/2 Warp 4, Windows NT4 and Windows 95
Quadrupple: OS/2 Warp 4, Windows NT4, Windows 98 and Linux

There really isn't that much benefit to having dual boot. Gerasim doesn't have enough server to handle a major sprint like FB or Pentathlon. Yoyo used to run about 15% faster on Win but I don't know if that is still true. There was another project, I'm thinking TN Grid, that was 35% faster but after they released the latest apps it dropped to a 5% differential.

Oh, I forgot the biggest benefit to dual boot! I get to twist your tail for the next week

I've not been able to revive my Gerasim account. But my good friend Hugh Jarse has waddled forward & taken charge of my 2 available Win64 machines on my behalf. Not that it'll make much difference. SUSA were always going to win, & the rest of you had UBT licked long before I woke up.

And not long after I posted this the project ran out of spstarter WUs. Come on Gerasim@Home, don't play those games!

Congratulations to Bryan and Scole for your performances, I thought Steve might have stopped a little early there but couldn't quite catch him.
A fun sprint.

I must have made the project admins mad. They stopped creating spstarter WUs and left me floundering for several hours.

Ah, I thought it was a deliberate easing off at the end, not you being picky
