I'm giving this one a miss too. After the Pentathlon, we have a huge lead in the FB Marathon with the sprint yet to come
I think this is fool-proof but could you just try it for me please? • There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary, and those who don’t

Really not much interest in the BAM competitions this year. Also the team that posted it never compete in their own competitions ? Don't get the point in that.

Guys, do I block this IP address 116.203.62.4 to stop yoyo uploading tasks?

For bunkering?
I've never done it that way TBH so can't advise. YoYo has long deadlines and will give you loads of WU if you set cache sizes. You can then just disable network until you are ready to drop

Despite the poor turnout from TSBT (just 4 of us on it) we are a respectable 2nd of 13 with just 8hrs gone.
Hurrah for me, Hal, UBT-Blubb2K3, & Snowdog!
Come on guys, we've entered the race we might as well make an effort.
Interesting historical fact: Snowdog coded the first ever version of this board, back when we were still called Scotland's SETI.

Probably not. Went from webmaster to silent stalwart: Hasn't posted in many years. But he keeps on crunching, & thats the main thing!

It is the main thing I suppose, but just on the off chance, he and others decide to return, I have maintained all the accounts and posts of those that I could identify as actively crunching for the team. We may have a renaissance on the board .....Megacruncher wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2019 10:56 pm Probably not. Went from webmaster to silent stalwart: Hasn't posted in many years. It is your call. Beneficial, in my opinion, to give you experience for running it in anger for future competitions though (as this particular challenge isn't any great shakes).
It is a CPU project incidentally.

- create an account - click YoYo logo in https://tsbt.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=109
- join TSBT team
- set account to accept WU from Cruncher - optimal golumb ruler only
- attach to YoYo from boinc (don't take a large cache)
- there is nothing special to download for this one
- wait a long time for YoYo WU to complete (yes, even at 5GHz ). Their own estimate of when a WU will finish is hopelessly inaccurate.
- wait some more for them to validate
- pour a whisky to prepare yourself for the disappointment when you see the pittance of credits they award

I am running just over 400 threads, mostly xeon but yes, I do have a couple of 2990wx
Monitoring announcements from AMD though where 3900X, new EPYC, and price cuts on 2990wx will soon hit UK. We might even hear of a new TR4 socket successor to 2990wx soon

Could see by the results you had some serious compute power !
Amd have really put the wind up Intel great new Architecture will be interesting to see what's coming on both sides in the next two years.

A few folks on here have more threads than me though
I rather doubt that I'll be buying Intel again unless things change dramatically. That said, you get the occasional daft deal on eBay which I can't walk away from. There is also the simple fact that any machine gives you one or more GPU slots to fill up

@SolidAir79 The cache size is set in your boinc manager by you changing the setting of how many days work and how many days additional work you want.SolidAir79 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 3:48 pm That should be me started could not see the option on the cache
Have your manager in advanced view
Preferences
Under computing other
Store at least N days of work: Store at least enough tasks to keep the computer busy for this long.
Store up to an additional N days of work: Store additional tasks above the minimum level. Determines how much work is requested when contacting a project.
Don't go crazy with it or you will end up with tons of work you can't finish
Also under computing
usage limits
Use at most N % of the CPUs: Keeps some CPUs free for other applications. Example: 75% means use 6 cores on an 8-core CPU. - Use this to determine how many cores you want to use. I normally use 75% which leaves you plenty of spare capacity for system etc and to use your computer whilst still crunching. Also used to control the heat in your CPU
Use at most N % CPU time: Suspend/resume computing every few seconds to reduce CPU temperature and energy usage. Example: 75% means compute for 3 seconds, wait for 1 second, and repeat. Do not change this from 100%, change core numbers instead.
If you are into the comps as well, guess I'd better upgrade your account to the full monty

Thanks for the upgrade and the advice will look into it tonight
#34 Re: 14/8-21/8 Competition in speeding up project OGR-28 - yoyo
Another option for setting the number of cores/threads being used (and more accurate) is to use the ncpu command in your cc_config. That will set the working cores/threads to the exact number you wish to use.

Just over a day and a half left left & we, and indeed I, seem to have second place in the bag.
I'll let my yoyo caches run down & get ready for the next Formula Boinc sprint.
Welcome SolidAir79! Don't let all the testosterone fuelled tech talk bamboozle or intimidate you.

Well done Mega - you've carried the can on this one for sure. Good contributions too by @Hal Bregg and @SolidAir79
Unless they also make sense from a FB perspective, I think I might give challenges called by Columbia a miss in future as they seem to just be taking the p1ss
PS : I've been repaying a few favours to our Pentathlon partners as they are the reason we are doing so well in FB marathons for WCG, LHC, NFS, Einstein and, ironically, YoYo

Happy to be given the space to help.
It's difficult to see why some nothing team sets up a challenge but then fails to turn up. They gain nothing. But a fight's a fight, even if the guy starting it is a coward who sods off as soon as the carnage begins. I like winning. Or even almost winning!

And we came a good 2nd out of 14! Well done all!
Our final turnout was respectable enough
Mega ........ 2nd
davidBAM . 15th
scole ........16th
Hal Bregg .. 22nd
SolidAir79 .. 80th
UBTBlubb2k3 85th
Snowdog ... 102nd
Out of 226 active participants.
For the record, Columbia did turn up eventually, but could only manage 12th.
