The project admin asked for a challenge to test the new server capability. Happy crunching!
Sounds like a server take down challenge to me

Michael, the admin, PM'd me asking that we setup a challenge to test their new server capability. I told him the timing wasn't good because of the upcoming Pentathlon. Then I told him he could contact SG and say he would really like to be considered for a Pentathlon project. He decided the additional load of 20X might be too much of a test :-)

Works for me. I haven't run it since they exported stats right at the beginning.

Don't forget this one. TSBT can gain FB points on it.

It starts immediately after the FB Sprint ends.

Or even earlier as we usually win the FB Sprint within a few hours

Ah yes - is this the one which reports back with every 15mins or so to get credits? Can it bunker with the network closed?

Well the definitive answer is ... ... yes and no

two fresh attachments to two different instances. Have been running quite happily with the network access off. Then I checked my DHEP account & both machines have credit.

My conclusion is therefore that it ignores the network setting and calls home anyway. Pity LHC Atlas doesn't do this too

I'd imagine it ignores the network setting as the units are not conventional boinc units but simple placeholders. I'd guess the only way to stop it is either to suspend ( that does work ) or block the physical IP.
As the project calls home every 15 mins and points are given using the trickle up system, it will be impossible to bunker. This competition will be a straight up shoot out from start to finish.
I'll try and run it, but basically I'm down to 4 PC's with GPU's and 2 working servers. Everything else is toast at the moment and may stay that way for the foreseeable future. Tech shed is a sad place just now.

I know exactly what you mean Pete. Feel a bit the same myself TBH

Will be taking some machines down for a refit but will stick with DHEP on most

I don't know guys, I like getting the Microsoft Technical Support calls. I can usually keep them going 10 to 20 minutes and I get them real frustrated. I finally tell them that I'm not sure that the version of LInux that I'm running doesn't seem to have a "Start" button.

If you can be bothered there is good sport to be had by stringing along some poor sod, usually allegedly called Edward or James, but not sounding very British, calling from a dodgy call centre. I usually tell them in a really broad Aberdeenshire accent that I’m called Deepak. If only they could understand anything I said they’d probably be quite amused.

Anyhoo for a bunch of burnt out cases with electrical supply issues & ongoing maintenance we are doing alright. We are gaining on SUSA and hold 4 of the top 6 individual places.

Woohoo!

It looks like TAAT found some more HP. I sent a PM to Mumps to see if he could jump on it till the end. Of course it will be morning at the earliest before he gets it. I don't know if it will be in time.

Regarless, thank you guys for the help!

True story ... ...
A pig farmer from Inverurie area was having problems with his phone so he got onto the BT help desk. The English woman from BT would doubtless have been hugely helpful if she had been able to understand a single word of his (admittedly) very broad Aberdeenshire accent sprinkled with Doric words.

After getting him to repeat things several times - which he did, only slightly slower - she had a brainwave, and said "I'll just transfer you to our new Urdu help desk, sir"

If and when Mumps comes onstream, I think I'll head back to TSBT as [H] may be trying to steal 3rd place https://boincstats.com/en/stats/182/tea ... d%5B%5D=19

Maybe more of should move back but I guess beating TaaT is the priority

I've moved back to TSBT now, in fact.

Based this on #1 position now being determined by Mumps' involvement or otherwise. Whether or not I am crunching for SUSA won't affect that result.

I just got a PM from Mumps and he said he'd come on board but I don't how much he'll bring. From the looks of things I'm not sure he can stop it. Skillz normally produces about 1/2 of what I do but according to today's stats he is out gunning me 3X  phoenicis has cranked it up as well.

We gptta watch HardOCP!

That's Mumps' credits starting to kick-in for SUSA now. Hopefully Skillz will divert back to TaaT and leave TSBT to get 3rd place

Sorry I wasn't here to proactively make things happen :(

Thanks Bryan, & sorry we couldn’t get SUSA over the line for you, but it was obviously a lost fight & we had to move to one that was still there to be won.

45 min to go and TSBT are just 1.2 M ahead of [H]!
We should make it but Jeepers would probably soil himself with excitement if he had to commentate on this race!

We could have done better. Mumps was focused elsewhere and by the time he started getting cranked up it was too late. The last update he did 1.4M and he wasn't up to speed yet  TAAT was smart, they waited until late at night before ramping up so there was no time to respond.

At least we were able to hold them off with [H]!

There will be other days but TAAT is a force to be reckoned with now that the big crunchers from HardOCP have joined them.

Yeah, I reckon they were fired up for revenge after the debacle at the Pentathlon

Good fight though and a nice boost for the DHEP project. Their servers seemed to cope well. Only gripe I have now is that their project stats only update hourly
