#1 installing windows on virtualbox

Post by davidbam »

I have a bootable USB for Windows 7 but can't persuade virtualbox to boot from it.

I also thought I might be able to directly use a .iso from the hard disk but can't figure that out either.

Help please
I think this is fool-proof but could you just try it for me please? • There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary, and those who don’t

click Settings,
click Storage,
under the Storage Tree click the Empty dvd icon,
click on down arrow of dvd icon under Attributes on right side,
click Choose Virtual Optical Disk File...,
navigate to win7 install iso file and select it,
start vm and it should boot from iso

thanks - getting somewhere now I think

PS : also needed "vboxmanage modifyvm win7 --firmware efi" (where win7 was the name I gave to the VM)

So far so good. Was about to install Boinc and suddenly thought about IP address / port numbers etc.

CMD> IPCONFIG reports it as having IP address 10.0.2.15. It can ping out but I can't ping the VM itself

Should I change this to an available 192.168 address so that I can connect to it from btsk (boinctasks) etc?

Shut down the VM, under the Settings, click Network and change it from NAT to Bridged Adapter. It will then grab IP from DHCP but you can change to specific IP if you want
