#1 Billionaire's Largesse Competition.

Post by Megacruncher »

Listen up peeps.

I won the last comp I set so here's another one, which I will exclude myself from but which, by way of compensation, is all about me!

I will soon be clocking up a billion credits 8)

The aim of the comp is to guess what the TSBT total tally will be at the instant that I add that magical 10th digit.

The rules are:
You can enter if you can post on this forum, and aren't me.
Guesses should be to the nearest whole million.
You have one guess each which you can revise as often as you want, right up to the last minute, so long as you don't steal someone else's guess.
I will use Temujin's stats to decide the winner.
My decision, however wrong, is final.
The prize is a £10 Amazon voucher.

By way of a help for you all I'd quite like to reach 1,000,000,000 before or on my 13th Anniversary of signing up for SETI. This falls on 16th July, so I'll be beefing up my output from now on in.

Good lucks peeps.

Hi Grant,

:?:

Go for the 14th July if you want (although it seems a tad optimistic from where I'm sitting) but, if you want to enter the comp read above and then guess some millions which might reflect the TSBT total at the hour of my breakthrough! :)

Woo hoo!
3 entries!
That's a competition - two would just be a bet.
A few more would be nice though.

I'm at 976 million. TSBT is at 5,412 million. I'm hoping to have the feat accomplished not later than 16th July, my 13th crunching birthday.

It was pretty late.
Still could have been worse. Don't say I'm the only one of us to have bought a second hand tractor with complementary Ukrainian peasant woman while surfing eBay pissed at night?
Thought not.

So we have:
Storme: ..... 5468
Janos: ........ 5475
Reeltime: ... 5478
macDitch .... 5480
Andy Manzie 5489

... You could probably get a lot of mileage out of a Ukrainian tractor ...mind you, you might have to bust the peasant woman out of the klink if you want to get the GPU working... :D

Mine is 5474.

And with less than 17.5 million left to go, my intending to take 8 days to do it, and the TSBT total standing @ 5428. The guesses are:

Storme: ...... 5468
PinkPenguin: 5474
Janos: ......... 5475
Reeltime: ..... 5478
MacDitch: .... 5480
Andy Manzie: 5489

Were I allowed to take part I think I'd be going for 5482. But don't let that influence you..

Remember you can revise your guesses right up to the last minute.

I'm 6.7 million short of my billion. The TSBT tally stands at 5452 million and our RAC is 6.2 million per day. I'm fairly sure that by swapping my NVidia GPUs to SetI I can slow things down enough that the Billion will fall on my 13th crunching anniversary of 16th July.

So, assuming you can be ar***d , get ready for those Last minute steals.

FWIW 5482 now seems wildly optimistic - just as well you didn't let it influence you!

B****r & blast!

I went away for the weekend leaving the farm to edge towards 1 billion.

Now I come back & find that the HD7970 has been chewing on a single DistRTGen WU most of the weekend taking 28hr to reach 98%!!  :x

So instead of coming back to find myself with an easy 1.5-2.0 million saunter for tomorrow I find myself 3.1 million adrift. This may not be easily sorted before the 16th is over. But I'll try!

The TSBT total is 5467 so at least two of the guesses need urgent revising.

Hah. Someone who is paying attention! :)
My efforts to make up for the damage inflicted by that rogue DistrRTGen WU have been as unsuccessful as they were valiant! So, having missed my birthday, I shall ease off now @ 998.9 million and let that billion happen whenever it wants.

Having said which, I' ve got an awful lot of DistrRTGen cached so that should be sometime today. The TSBT total is 5472.6 million so it might look as if the best guesses are taken. However 5476 might be worth grabbing.

Good luck everyone!

Looking back over the stats it seems to have been at 11am. At which hour the TSBT total was a shade over 5475, so the winner is Janos! :wav:
Thanks to all who took part.

Very noble of you Sir! 8)

I shall match your donation and put it to the charity Mary's Meals which helps to feed Malawian children, as supported by that unlikely victim of heavy internet censorship, inflicted by that even more unlikely perpetrator Argyll & Bute Council, Mary Payne of : http://neverseconds.blogspot.co.uk/ fame. I hope you approve.

That cuddly old philanthropist George Osbourne will also contibute some giftaid.

We could always spray paint some highland cows with the BOINC logo and our website address ;)

Failing that, it is coerce a friend time.

Many a true word spoken in jest. Recruitment drive? How many of us are involved in social media? Could we recruit even casual users through fb etc?

Btw congrats Janos for the comp.

Once im back in the country I'll try thinking of ways to spread out not insignificant reach
