Are we still on for this? This is a 7 day challenge :P I'm starting to see the virtue of shorter challenges.

It's either this or Seti.. No serious bunkering though. Just a day between yoyo and this.

If you're going to run Seti then I'll stick on TN-Grid and take it to the next milestone - 5M. If you are going to do Numbers then I'll pull off when I hit 2.5M (tomorrow morning) and start a bunker. I could do a "Scole"

Your call ... I certainly don't need credits or hours on NF.

What did I tell you Alez

BTW, ole GC is averaging about 780k/day on NF. I'm not sure we can take them without a solid bunker. Then again, I don't know what kind of numbers we can put up either :?:

I hit my low goal on TN so I'm moving machines over to NF now.

Let's see a show of hands who else is willing to bunker and run this challenge? If there's enough interest and participation I may join too

Which OS pays best Win64 or linux?

EDIT: Ok you slackers. Get on it! Rechenkraft is going to ban me for aborting all those yoyo WUs. Not my fault though. It's the scheduler. I only set the cache to 2 days of work. After a day of working on it, the remaining time swelled to over 7 days.

Well Paul and Alez already said that they are in so we were just waiting for the big boy to realize it was what he really wanted to do  Not that we coerced you in any manner of course!

I've been trying to build a big cache ... some machines are fighting it and others aren't. But I've turned in some WU on each computer and if the numbers hold (I don't know if it uses Credit Screw) then 780k/day won't be a problem for us to cover  I might actually be able to do a Scole

I think this will be my last 7 day challenge!

I've put the lid on everything ... at least the 1st batch. I don't know how long they will last but that is what multiple BOINC instances are for :) I'm finding that a lot of the WU only run for a couple of seconds and others run for hours.

Interesting, BTasks is showing the deadline on my WU as the morning of the 18th (7 days). Looking at my tasks on the project it shows the deadline is on the 21st (10 days). I don't think I've ever seen that before.

@Scole, when are you planning on cutting it loose? I'm currently thinking I'll do it fairly early so I can get the machines set for the week llloooonnngggg slog. What idiot suggested doing a 7 day challenge ... we oughta kick their butt

For a 7 day challenge it's kind of boring to just do one big drop and then wait out the next 7 days. My oldest WUs aren't due until the 18th at 11am eastern (according to BT) so I was going to wait until late in the day on the 17th and upload just the first batch. Then slow release over a few days. Spread the fun out a little. And I saw the same thing on the WU deadlines. Obviously an anti-bunker feature. Trying to fool us into loading up too soon. Didn't work!

But if I stagger the release then how will I know if I managed to do a "Scole"?

BTW, I posted on the project forum and asked what the true deadline is. I'd certainly hate to ignore BTasks/Boinc Manager and find out they are correct.

I was just being a smart a$$

I'm hoping the admin says there is actually a 10 day deadline. Then I'll probably just start it with clean machines and wait until I have to start cutting them loose for the bunker.

From the admin;
There is a 7 day deadline with a 3 day grace period, so you really have 10 days to complete the task.

When do you want to wait to upload? Friday evening? Now I don't mind waiting 3 days into a challenge and dropping a bomb. That would be fun too.

With the additional 3 days then I MUST dump on the 21st so I'm thinking the 20th would be a good time for the 1st batch. The high thread machines will have a 2nd batch that'll have to go by the 23rd so I will cut those loose on the 22nd. Or if you want we can release all of them at the same time.

I just suspended all WU in cache and I'm going to let all running WU finish. The big machines didn't have enough cache left to make it until morning. I'm going to bring up new instances on all machines and get some work. Then when it starts I will release that 8-12 hour bunker and just run it straight.

It'll be interesting to see how TSBT does against GC with no bunker. I'm betting we'll kick their behinds. They're only doing 780k/day.

If you have a different plan then I'm game for that too

I think waiting until the 20th (half way though) and releasing as needed to meet the deadlines will deliver a good buzz kill to the teams leading.

I just looked and GC has increased their output over the last 3 days. It went from their 780k -> 889k -> 1M -> 1.2M. They could actually make it interesting for several days.

Wait till the number of participants has doubled, in a few hours from now.
It is now 31 out of 54....
It is now 35 out of 64....and for some devious reason, I'm still not there, with those 29.
and now 40 out of 75. I'm in!
AMD Users will, together with Boinc@Poland and Boinc.Italy, attack Gridcoin from the rear while TSBT will keep them busy at the front end.

Yeah, but GC isn't doing squat! We're having a hard time slowing up enough to keep them in the game  I guess I can start bunkering a couple more machines. In case you haven't noticed, I'm betting that Scole can do a little more than 80k in 13 hours!!!!

I think we will see the mother of all bunkers during this challenge. However, I don't think GC or Columbia is the team holding it :bom: But of course that is just a guess on my part.

We did pretty good on the Enigma challenge. Mumps and Cineon had to fire up to pull away from us!

The lackluster performance of the Borg might be explained by their own challenges,

Actually it's may be both  They increased their output last night just about the time I put the lid on some machines because we had been increasing our lead. Either good timing on their part or very poor timing on my part.

The situation should start correcting itself in a few more hours.

What kind of hound?

And Gridcoin isn't going to add any more resources. Their LHC challenge starts tonight and they've booked a vLHC challenge right after that (which I'm in favor of running, I need the WUProp hours). And then they challenge crapped on SETI.USA's TN-Grid challenge and booked their own which ends less than 2 days before SUSA's starts. Come on guys.

From the vLHC forum:

Laurence: (VLHC Project Administrator): Please don't run the challenge here. User account creation is disabled. Please instead use LHC@home.

Erkan Yilmaz (Gridcoin): OK, we'll cancel this challenge

EDIT: My bookmark was to the old project site. I didn't realize all the sub-projects they had! Do they get reported to WUProp under the LHC project or Atlas, vLHC for those apps who run them too? Never mind. I checked WUProp. Wow I'm out of touch.

Well that stinks. I don't need any LHC hours. :P

And Gridcoin are muppets. So far up their own butts, will be a pleasure to watch their demise. Hound is a cross between an alsatian mother and a collie father. The dogs look like bears, the bitches will be large to. Sure there is a weird name for what is a mixed breed.
